Charis ("we", "our", or "the app") is a daily gratitude journaling app. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.
Information We Collect
When you use Charis, we collect:
- Account information: Email address (if you sign up with email), or authentication tokens from Google/Apple Sign-In
- Display name: A first name or pseudonym you choose, visible to other users
- Gratitude entries: The text you write for your daily gratitudes
- Usage data: Streak counts, entry dates, and app preferences
How We Use Your Information
- To provide the gratitude journaling service
- To display your entries (with display name only) in the public feed
- To track your streak and send optional reminder notifications
- To moderate content and maintain a positive community
Public Feed
When you submit your gratitude entries, they may appear in the public feed visible to other Charis users. Entries are shown with your display name only — no email, profile picture, or other identifying information is shared.
Entries that don't pass our content moderation are kept private and won't appear in the feed.
Data Storage
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which provides encrypted database storage and secure authentication. Data is stored on servers located in the United States.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Supabase: Database and authentication
- Google Cloud: Translation services for the feed
- OpenAI: Content moderation
- Expo: Push notifications
- Apple/Google: Sign-in services (if you use them)
Data Retention
We retain your data as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app's settings.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Delete your account and all data
- Export your gratitude entries
- Opt out of the public feed (entries saved but not shared)
Children's Privacy
Charis is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes through the app or by email.
